    Saranya, a Self Employment Scheme for Destitute Women is introduced by the State Government of Kerala for the job less poor widows who had registered with employment exchanges and who had been legally separated, left alone by their husbands and the women above 30 years of age and the other divorced mother from the backward communities. It also gives the assistance to the women who is taking care of their wards and family after the death of their husband.

    Under this Scheme, Rupees Fifty Thousand (50,000/-) would be provided to each applicant. Interest fee bank of upto Rs. 50 Thousand would be provided for commencing their own employment project. Out of Rs. 50,000/-, 50% means 25 thousand will be reimburse as Government subsidy subject to a maximum of Rs. 25,000/- through employment department. Repayment will be done in sixty equal monthly instalments.

    If the project or enterprise required an amount more than the limit of Rs. Fifty thousand, then the applicant has to pay her beneficiary contribution of Ten percent of that amount. In addition to, the beneficiary has to pay 3% as interest at flat rate for the amount she avails in surplus to Rs. Fifty Thousand.

    This Scheme proposed for individual enterprise, but it also allow to start joint venture by more than one entrepreneurs. Each person of this joint venture will get maximum amount of loan and its subsidy.

    Who is eligible under the Saranya Scheme:

    #@>. All unemployed widows, divorced, abandoned, single woman above the age of 30 and unmarried mothers of Scheduled Tribe in the live Register of Employment Exchanges between the age limit 18 – 55 except in the case of spinsters, are eligible under the Saranya scheme

    #@>. All the widows, the woman whose husband is dead and she has not remarried till date can take the Certificate from the Village Officer/President of the Grama Panchayath or Chairman of the Municipal Corporation or the Mayor of the Corporation as the case may be.

    #@>. All the Divorced woman who has been divorced through a court of law or through her religious organization. A Certificate to the effect that she has not remarried till date can be obtained from the Village Officer, is required.

    #@>. All the Deserted, who are desert by her husband/ woman whose husband is missing means woman whose husband is absconding otherwise missing for the last seven years. Such woman should produce certificate from the Tahsildar to the effect that she has not been remarried till date is required to get the facility under the scheme.

    #@>. Spinsters, an unmarried woman who has completed the age of 30 years as on 1st April of the year of application and not yet married. Certificate to this effect is to be produced from the Village Officer.

    #@>. All the Unmarried mother means unmarried mother who belongs to Scheduled Tribe Category means woman who belongs to Scheduled Tribe Category and became mother without having married. Certificate to this effect is to be obtained from the Village Officer stating clearly the caste and community in the certificate.

    #@>. Those whose annual family income is not more then Rs. One lac (1,00,000/-) is eligible under the scheme. Educational Qualification must suit to the project selected. Preference will be given to those who have professional or technical qualification.

    Execution of Saranya:

    >>} The eligible candidates can get the application form from the Employment exchange where the candidate is registered free of cost. After filling of application form can be submitted to there with all the details of project report and Income Certificate issued from the Village Officer.

    >>}The employment exchange authority will verify all the details of applications being correct or not, Income Certificate, Community Certificate, Certificate regarding their marital status etc. Then if it is submitted in the Town Employment Exchange, it will be forwarded to the District Employment Exchange concerned.

    >>}All the scrutinised application are submitted to the District Committed by the District Employment Officer for sanctioning the loans. The District Committee is the sanctioning authority for Saranya. District collector is the chairman and District employment officer the Convener.

    >>}The Employment department will directly sent the Demand Draft to the bank account of the applicant. The beneficiaries of Saranya Self Employment Scheme will be consider for regular vacancy only and not for temporary vacancy.
